Karen
Whyte
Karen Whyte (nee MacNeill) originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, is an Ottawa
artist who paints in various media. She studied art at the University of Ottawa
(Bachelor of Fine Arts, Studio, 1998), and earlier at the High School of Commerce
(Adult Art Program, 1989) as well as at the Ottawa School of Art. She works
from her home studio. Karen has been a practicing R.N. until her retirement
in 2004. She studied art and painting during the years of nursing and now
she is a full-time artist, working from her home studio. Artist's Statement
"Through my art I express and give form to my experience of wilderness and
my feelings about the Earth. My canoe and kayak travels through Algonquin
Park and more remote Canadian waterways has taught me a deep appreciation
for nature's rich complexity and sacred order. I believe that more wilderness
areas should be protected." "My paintings are of specific places that I have
visited and remember, places I hope will last. I am drawn again and again
to the transition zone between land and water, the edges that represent the
spiritual and physical interrelationship of life on our planet. My art communicates
my enchantment with, and my concern for, the Earth."
