Lisa Free
At a very early age Lisa Free expressed strong interest and ability in the arts, working in various crafts and drawing profusely. As an adult she first explored these interests professionally though her 15 year career in theatrical costume and subsequently as a commercial textile artist. Her love for fine arts has resurfaced
through her paintings and pastels. Nearly a decade ago, she returned to her family roots in the 1000 Islands.
She took this opportunity to explore local subjects in her paintings that are personally powerful to her.
Landscapes have dominated Lisa's recent work but she also enjoy figurative, abstract and still life. She spends many days observing her hometown on walks with her dog or out in her boat searching for subjects that inspire and excite her.
Lisa's challenge in painting is to capture the essence of a moment, slant of light, mood or time of day that we all recognize, and through her eyes, her sense of balance, hue, color, make her profound personal relationship with nature a collective one.
