Graduating from the Graphic Design program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Marje received an Award of Merit for Excellence in Graphic Design during her first year.
After graduation she worked primarily in communication graphics and is currently involved in graphic design on a freelance basis as well as being gallery curator at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery in Brockville.
Her studies include painting and drawing at Bob Grant's Fine Art Studio in Ottawa; an apprenticeship with Bob Grant on the "how to" to teach basic drawing skills; art classes at St. Lawrence College in Brockville, the Ottawa School of Art and art history courses at Carleton University. She has also taken workshops with Richard Gill, Doug Purdon, Henry Vyfvinkel, Andrea Mossop, Robert Hyndman, Jerry Weiss, Ian Roberts, American impressionist artist Anatoly Dverin and Juan Carolos Martinez from the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, and with Dana Brezina at York Studio in Ottawa, a private art school with focus on knowledge based foundation in drawing and painting and a master-student concept of teaching.
A member of the "Plein Air Ensemble" an Eastern Central Ontario Art Association, dedicated to painting outdoors, Marje finds inspiration on the winding back roads of Lanark Count, in the Laurentians, Eastern Townships, Charlevoix, Haliburton, Algonquin Park and southern France. She also does life drawing and portrait painting at the Nepean Visual Arts Centre and is an unstructured member of "Go Figure" a group of artists whose collective interest is life drawing
