Margaret Ferraro
Margaret has been involved in artwork all her life. With a keen interest in
drawing, Margaret spent many years as a textile designer and silk painter. She
spent several more years owning and operating her own gallery. Since moving
to the Ottawa, Margaret continued in her creativity while raising her two daughters.
Teaching art classes to children and adults, Margaret now specializes in teaching
various pastel classes and life drawing, beginner to advanced. In her artwork,
Margarets' work goes back and forth between landscape and figure and florals.
The figurative work is done in a layering technique that uses charcoal or ink,
acrylic paint, and/or pastel. Margarets' landscape may be done in oil, acrylic,
or pastel. In Margarets' landscapes, you will see a strong influence from her
textile work, design and pattern, texture and colour becoming the major factors
in her composition. This playful approach aids the fantasy like nature of these
paintings. Margarets' figure work is a play of + and - shapes, using expressive
colour to evoke vitality and mood to each piece. Using abstracted surroundings,
and an ever graceful sense of line and proportions, Margaret hopes to move her
viewers understanding of universal experience and emotion. Margaret has extensive
exhibition experience, both in Canada and the United States. Some high profile
shows Margaret has participated in are the Pastel Society of America Show, in
NYC's National Art Club, and Pastel artists of Canada, at various locations
around the country. Currently, Margaret work can be seen at the Ottawa Art Gallery,
Gallery Perth (Perth, Ont.), Groundz Café (Almonte), and Three Yellow Tulips
(Packenham, Ont.) Canada. Margaret also participates in the Red Trillium studio
tour, held on Mothers' Day weekend every year, and again in November. every
year. To view a complete body of work, including drawings, pastels, and oils,
