Sally Chupick

Born in Nova Scotia in1956, raised in Canada and Europe, Sally Chupick is a Canadian painter. She graduated with an honour diploma in fashion design in 1978, but once in the industry realized her heart wasn't there.

Returning to her primary interest in visual art, she began self-study and workshops, developing her art in the medium of watercolour. Over 25 years she continued painting, moving around the world with her family. Painting was constant and kept her grounded. For three years in 1999-2001, Sally painted full time while in Australia. It was a huge period of growth. While there she attended the Brougham School of Art, studying art history and oil painting.

Returning to Canada, she noticed the transition from working in watercolour to working in oils brought significant changes to her work. Subtle diffused passages took on more definitive shapes, and a sense of play crept into the structure of compositions. An integral element of her work is harmony. It resonates within the colours, rhythm and flow of her paintings.

Sally now works primarily in the oil medium. She paints portraits of people in her life and flowers from her cottage garden; while striving to simplify elements. Inspiration from the landscape of southern Ontario and eastern Canada dominate her landscape work.

Sally's studio is in Kingston, Ontario.
